Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Terengganu
Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, PROF. DATO` DR. NOR AIENI BINTI HAJI MOKHTAR DPMT, JSM was appointed as the 5th Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu from April 13, 2015. He has more than 30 years of experience as an academician and administrator. Started a career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Science, and researchers at the Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He has expertise in the field of computerized physical modeling; hydraulic engineering and beach; instrumentation; and oceanographic research and marine science.
During his tenure at UTM, he was appointed to various key positions including Deputy Dean, Deputy Executive Director of the Sultan Iskandar Institute and Chief Executive Officer of ISI Venture Sdn Bhd’s university-issued company and headed various research and consultancy projects.
At the national level, he was in charge of establishing the National Oceanography Directorate (NOD) of the Ministry of Technology and Innovation and was appointed the first NOD Director from 1998 to 2014. He has led the capacity building initiatives in oceanographic and marine research and development programs state science. Among his contributions include the preparation of the NOD team and stakeholders at the agencies and ministries and centers of university marine excellence, the National Ocean Policy study, the National Ocean Data Center Development and the National Oceanography Institute study. He has also represented Malaysia for bi-lateral and multi-lateral international co-operation negotiations and has held executive chair of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) executive council -UNESCO, IOC / WESTPAC Scientific Adviser and Vice Chairman and Scientific Adviser and head of the national secretariat for the Coral Triangle Initiative .
Prof. Dato ‘Dr. Nor Aieni Haji Mokhtar was awarded with honorary awards among them, the “Terengganu Women’s Figure” awards in 2008, Darjah Johan Setia Mahkota, JSM in 2010 by DYMM SPB YDP Agong, and Dato Paduka Mahkota Terengganu (DPMT) by DYMM Sultan Terengganu at year 2012.
